Our Pilgrimage to South Jersey!

Last Sunday after  church we headed to see friends and family in Philadelphia and South Jersey.
After traveling for a few hours, and stopping, of course, at Mc Donald's (after all we were carrying a hungry,
growing boy with us!!)...........

we finally arrived.
We arrived first at our dear old friend's house (not that they are old!!) where we were
to spend the night. It was good to see them. Sondra is recovering from pnuemonia and a collasped lung!
She is doing very well. -- We have known she and her husband Mario for 28 years!!-
Wow! Time sure does fly!!!!

Sunday evening, we headed to Philly to see our son Dave and his girlfriend Lenore. Lenore wasn't feeling well. She had a terrible cold!! While we were there we saw a cool old movie- the first Wizard of Oz. It starred Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy fame!!

It was a silent movie and was really great.
The next day, after a night at our friend's house, we went to visit my bro in law at
his art gallery. He has his own gallery where he teaches, does framing and does his own work too.

Next we went to see my grandmother at the farm where me and my sister, my brother, and cousins
grew up! Not much is left of it now. There's a shopping center where our house used to stand. And where
the barns used to be, and the dairy and dairy bar, are a lot of stores.
Do we really need another CVS ?

Anyway-we went to see my grandmother who is  101 today!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANA!!!

She was looking so wonderful!!
I can't even fathom everything she has experienced in her lifetime!
She taught school in a one room school house at the age of 16.
Got married a short while after that to a dairy farmer.
She raised 3 sons, and became the wife of the mayor of that town-that same
dairy farmer- my granddad!
So her story goes on and on.....
But there's a lot of history that happened in all those years, and she must have
a lot of stories to tell!

After visiting my grandmother, we traveled on to see our granddaughter
and her husband and new baby! Our 2 month old
great-grandson!!

Isn't he just a little doll baby!!
We had a wonderful visit and then headed out again!

This time we went to Borders Bookstore and.......
the car broke down!
It started overheating and leaking anti-freeze!!

Oh No!!!
The car ended up being towed and we ended up getting a room at
the Red Bull Inn !

Not the greatest motel in the world by far!!
We had to ask the maid for a shower curtain!
But it was $56 and the Merriot was $250 a night!!
We thought we'd save a few $!!

The next morning our friend came to pick us up and
then we found out that the van was done too.

They replaced the water pump and the serpentine belt!!
(It's all greek to me!! )

We all went to a great diner that must have had a million selections on the menu!!
Then at last we arrived home around 2PM.
It's always good to get home after an adventure.

The doggies were overjoyed to see us!! Guess the big kids who were left
at home
just didn't do things the same as Mom & Pop!!

  1. It just occurred to me after rereading my post that that car break down was really a blessing in disguise! It made us slow down and take off just one night to relax! We really had done alot of running in 48 hours!!! -Wow! I didn't realize that before!! ;-)
