Lenten Soup Suppers

We had our last lenten soup supper this past Wednesday. We have been having them every Wednesday  night during Lent.
It was Men's night, which means they set all the tables, and made all the soups (oh yes, we always serve home made soups and breads and deserts!). The ladies always joke that the men won't be able to handle it, but they did a superb job!

That night we had turkey noodle soup, corn chowder, vegetable soup, tortilini soup, chicken rice soup and tomato based vegetable rice soup.

We also had a speaker for all the soup suppers. A retired Baptist pastor who is a member of our church.
He spoke about the life of Jesus. He is excellent and also teaches a history class in one of the colleges near to us. We have all loved to hear him every week!

He always starts his talks with a  joke. Let me see if I can get this joke right that he told last night.

There was an Amish man and his young teenage son who went to a shopping mall one day. They stood in a courtyard within the mall and looked at all the strange sights. They looked at this tall wall that had an electric door that opened into it. They were wondering what this was when an old woman with a walker walked up to it and pushed a button that was right next to it. The doors opened and she stepped inside. The doors closed and the numbers that were above the door lit up going from one to three. Then they stopped for a few minutes and lit up again in descending order. Next the door opened again and a beautiful blond 20 year old woman in a mini skirt came out and walked away. The man and his son looked at each other in amazement and the father said "Go get your mother!!"

And a good time was had by all!

  1. What a wonderful tradition. I am a big fan of soup. I'd eat it everyday if I could.
