Our visit to Egypt!

We visited King Tut- the child pharaoh last Friday in New York City! The traffic was awful! People were weaving in and out, and while driving through the Lincoln Tunnel someone in the car had to wonder out loud about the possibility of a leak! We were, after all, going under the Hudson River! It's pretty incredible if you think about it! -- We were a party of one 4 year old, two 11 year olds, one 13 year old and two moms. The kids all being boys! Only one out of the four boys belonged to me. My friend, who was driving, had chosen that day to wean her boys of electronics, so there were no DSI games or movies on her DVD built in player. Not that I think it is a bad idea to cut down on electronics, but it would have been a help on such a long trip to have a deversion for the boys!

We arrived and met the other homeschoolers in the group and proceeded to the exhibit. It was very interesting. We saw weapons, small statues, a casket of a family member of Tut and many many other things including what was supposed to be the actual remains of the child king himself. (He died at the age of 19! )
One of the 11 year olds with us has seen lots of the History Channel and was telling me that those remains couldn't possibly be the real real thing! They were just copies! Why, he asked, would they risk sending the real thing around the US? Maybe he has a point? But it was interesting anyway!

(Opps! Who's that Lady?!)

Poor Tutankhamun became king at age 9 and died at age 19! They aren't sure what he died of. I have read rumors of a blow to the head! There were two small mummies buried in his tumb also. They think they may be of some still born children of his wife. I wonder how old she was? I wonder how many wives a 19 would have?

This little guy was running around the whole time we were there! Ha Ha!

  1. Great post - it sounds like a very interesting trip!!! When you move, what kinds of field trips are you going to do? Maybe a trip to the Pine Barrens, to visit the Pineys (what are they, anyway?) Maybe a trip to find the Jersey Devil? And of course, trips to the shore! Now that one sounds like fun! =D

  2. I am holding off on pushing the Jersey Devil on JJ! He gets creeped out by Chuckie and detours around the whole movie department at Walmart! LOL! I don't want to scare him from the woods of Jersey!! - We have to redo the whole historic Philadelphia tour! We've done it mucho times, but JJ was too little to remember! And Cleopatra is at the Franklin Institute till Oct.!
