That picture shows some of the house. Of course I can't find one of the whole house when I am looking for it! Here are a couple more views of the porch specifically.
So..... where is this all going? Oh yes, they are putting in a new porch after 140 years and I sure did want to get some pictures of it all! Here are some shots of what's happening everyday outside my front and side door starting bout 6:30 am to bout 4pm.

140 year old beams from under the porch. Still in pretty good shape! |

No more porch! That was one of the stone pillars! |
The new posts are going up. Cinder block covered with cement. They will get a stone face to keep the historic look.
They have some flat stone- don't know what kind it is- for the top of the posts. This was just some plastic stuff they had on top temporarily.
And that's all the photos so far. Yesterday Dave C had all the windows covered with plastic and taped and he spray painted the ceiling (the day before he power washed the house and the ceiling of the porch) and the paneling of the house around the porch. I was teasing him about how many spatters he got on his glasses!
He's one of the best natured guys I know! And so strong for a little guy! He really knows his stuff!
Today he has got a couple of other guys working with him. They just had the floor boards delivered. They are the kind that look like wood, but are not completely real wood. They are supposed to last forever!
We really enjoy sitting out on the porch in the hot afternoon with a glass of ice tea or ice water and taking a break, and our son Dave (yes we have a lot of Daves around here) uses the porch as his homebase while his leg is recovering. ---- I think we will have to have a porch warming party when this is all done!
Our new porch will be great!
I love the idea of an old house like that...but maybe not so much the work that goes into maintaining one. It will be wonderful to enjoy a brand new porch, though.
