A Quiet Day

It's been a relatively peaceful, quiet day thus far today. I started things out, after leaving my warm bed and sleepy husband, driving about a mile down the road to the Kountry Kitchen where we have our Tuesday morning Ladies Bible Study at 6:30am. We talked about Celebration in the church. We read the parables in Luke chapter 15 about the Lost Coin- where the woman loses a coin and searches and searches her house and finally finds it and has a celebration to rejoice with her friends that she found it-- we read the parable of the Lost Sheep where one lamb is lost and the shepherd leaves his sheep to search for the lost one and returns with it and is so happy that he finds it. (We also discussed that he didn't leave the other sheep all by themselves in a wide open place for the lions and wolves to have free range on them- there were other shepherds there too. Just the main - the chief shepherd went looking for the lost lamb.)
We also read about the Lost Son - the one where the younger son gets his share of his inheritance from his father and runs off and squanders it. When he returns from having been a pig keeper, after his money ran out, he is embraced by his father and there is a big celebration that he is back (found) again.
All of these are likened to us when we have strayed from the Lord and return back to his fold. There is a celebration in heaven when even one sinner comes (back) to Jesus. ~ Anyway, it was fun to talk about how we celebrate different events in our lives, like weddings, birthdays, graduations, etc. etc. Back in the Bible times they celebrated big time with friends, food, wine and music (and dancers.) The Israelites knew how to celebrate!

Speaking of celebrating-- we went to a very nice graduation party last Saturday afternoon. Great food and friends! There was a pool too and the kids had a great time in there. There was a fellow with a steel drum playing Jamaican music too. It was great! ~We have another graduation picnic to go to next Sat. back to back to a wedding at our church. So this month seems to be the time for celebration. Actually - all summer is the time! My daughter D is planning a birthday bar-b-que for my husband's birthday in July. The big 61. Isn't it funny-- when we were about 40 or more years younger-- 60 seemed OLD! Now it really doesn't. Just mature! (I'm not there yet! My husband robbed the cradle with me! Ha Ha!)

Last Friday we had fun at the Hangar. The Hangar is the church's youth center down the street. We had a Christian rapper come and sing. He brought another couple of young guys who played the guitar and sang too. I didn't think I would like the rapper- King Richard- since I am not a fan of rap music, but you know, he was pretty good. He had an excellent message. Part of it was geared towards the girls and talked about purity. A subject we can never talk enough about!

Yesterday I babysat for a couple in church. This couple have custody of their 3 young grandsons. One is 4, one is 6 and one is 9 or 10. Three very active young men, but really lots of fun. My son J enjoyed riding bikes down the hill next to our house with the two oldest ones. The youngest had a big wheels he was riding. He also had to watch his Sponge Bob Square Pants on TV.

I was able to sit down with the middle boy and do a puzzle of the US and Canada. He did pretty well. He is one who seeks negative attention a lot of the time. The middle child syndrome. So I tried to give him some positive attention instead.

I haven't done much knitting these past couple of days, so I can't show you any progress there. I have watched some WWE wrestling with my youngest son who lives and breaths the stuff right now! Oh boy! Those wrestlers! He left a website on the computer last night which I found this morning. It was Chris (Somebody's) Menagerie of Awesomeness! Can you imagine! I just had to laugh! Really!

Our daughter D just got a new job! One she can walk to just down the street! She is working at a deli/bakery/sandwich shop called Dodge's Market. She is the dish washer/prep chef/ runner (server). They get pretty busy around lunch time although today is a pretty gray day out so she may not be too busy. She's happy there so far. I think it's great. She wants to go into restaurant management and loves to work with people, so this is a great job for her. Now son D has to find a job and the family will be set!

I am going to close with a poem written by my son A. (I have 5 kids so in case you were wondering at all these references to different kids- that's why.) A is in college studying Journalism. He has always loved to write and especially loves to write poetry.

To Learn Life is to Live It

                                   Little by little each day
                                   We show the world more and more
                                   Of who we will be.
                                   Shedding old habits, skins of our past,
                                   Putting on pieces of our own future;
                                   Even on to the seasons of our deaths
                                   And beyond.
