Our part of the Derecho and our Maine Vacation!

We were in Maine visiting son #2 and family when the big storm hit the East Coast! The Derecho! All we got up in Maine where we were was some thunder and winds. Nothing severe. When we got home, we found the electric had been out and cable. Our town was spared, but all around us it looked like a battle zone! Here's a couple of pictures.

One tragic thing that happened was that two young children, 2 years old and 6 years old were killed at a campground near here. The tree fell on their tent! Rescuers couldn't get to them for two hours because the trees were covering the roads! ~ Some people still don't have power!

Also the heat has been really bad! About 100 degrees the last couple of days. Thank God we have air conditioning! Today is supposed to go up into the 90's but tomorrow back to 100 I think. We have a picnic for the missionaries from Haiti after church! They are going to feel right at home!

I have to get over to church to decorate for Bible School which is coming up next week- today is the official "get ready day!" But I wanted to post a few pictures of our visit to Maine. It was wonderful. I will post about it next time.

Our grandson E at 10 months!

Strawberries are in season so we made strawberry jam!

Our Maine Lobster dinner!! Served in a frying pan!
Father and Son canoe trek on the Sheepscott River!
Baby E and his mama!

  1. I read about the derecho. There was a bow echo storm near us. These are types of weather I had never even heard of before.
I'll bet it was great to spend some time with that boy (and eat lobster). I am glad you got some time to get to Maine and have a bit of a vacation for yourself.

  2. Thank you Olga. I never heard of a bow echo storm!! What is that? Keeping relatively cool in your neck of the woods?
