August 29th already!

I can hardly believe it's August 29th already! Where has this  month gone? I still have so many things to do this summer! We have not made it to the shore yet even though we have been busy this summer. I still plan to get down there! Our next trip, however, will be next Monday. We are planning on going up to NE Pa. and camping 2 nights at the campground where our son A is head mantainance man. It will be good to be back in the woods up there. I really miss it a lot. Then up to Maine for our grandson's 1st birthday!

I am not complaining about being here. I know there has been a purpose for our returning to South Jersey. Our family needed us down here. It seems that when both my grandparents died, God placed us in a church that was close by giving us opportunity to visit them. (My husband is a pastor so we get moved around.)
And this latest move has proved to be for the purpose of sheltering our oldest son when he broke his leg very badly (he has 2 plates and 7 screws now) and to be here when my 102 yr. old nana died, and to help out with my mom who is failing little by little. Also my brother who has been overseas for most of the last 20 years has moved into the area. It is great to visit with him too.

So-- what has been happening with our family this last month?  My last post spoke about me going on the mission trip. That was very successful. - While I was there, our youngest son, J, was at basketball camp at a Methodist camp in North Jersey, and then over to our friend's house nearby there. He had a great time. Little by little he has been telling me about camp. Yesterday he told me he was 3rd highest scoring player out of 30 some kids in the camp. That's great! And I am glad his knees seem to be doing so well, especially after his two knee surgeries in the past year.

I started taking up the carpet on our stairs inside the house. It was the only place left that still had carpeting on it in the house. Everything else is hard wood. My friend Debbie and I started taking it up. What a job that was! More than I thought it would be! Then my daughter's birth brother (she's adopted) came to stay with us. He took the rest of the carpet up and all the staples out, there were mucho staples, and then he sanded them all down and now has stained them! They look great! Next comes polyurethane. We already coated the landing with it. It looks great! Now to do the stairs. They will need about 4 coats I think. Then when we are all finished, my husband wants a runner up the stairs. It's a shame to cover up the beautiful wood, but I will look for a runner. Probably one with an oriental design. Something like this:

Although my stairs are nothing like that! Or how about this one:

Just kidding! Can you imagine having this? Well, maybe for a kids room!

The thing I am trying to figure out is what to do with the landings. I have two of them. I think I will start looking at some websites with pictures of runners and see what they did with the landings.

Well- a while back I was talking about dieting. I bit the bullet and joined weight watchers a week ago. I have been tracking (writing down) everything I eat and drink. It's interesting when you start to do that and see what you actually do eat and drink everyday. I definitely have to be drinking more water! And, I need to go to the fruit and veggie stand today and get some peaches and another fruit. Thing is, we have had some fruit flies around and I don't want to encourage anymore. A friend told me to always wash off the fruit you get from the store or stand to get any fruit fly eggs off. Lovely thought I know, but I try to do it always!

My knitting is coming along. I finished the back to my grandson's sweater and had to take out part of my son J's sweater to make it longer in the body. I have been trying to get knitting done everyday so I actually will finish these projects. After these are done, I plan to do some hats and scarves for Christmas presents. I know I will get a lot done while we are traveling next week. I want to work on teaching my daughter in law how to knit. I bought her some yarn last time we were there, but she hasn't progressed any or probably even picked it up.

Time to go. Chores are calling. Laundry and washing the kitchen floor to start with. I made some breakfast buns for the family, but I am being strong and not even tasting the icing!

Have a blessed day!
