I had my pre op tests today. Blood work, EKG and a cest X-ray, although I have no idea why I needed the chest X-ray. My upcoming surgery is for meniscus surgery on my right knee.
I told the woman doing the EKG that I have a heart murmur. I think I have always had one, but two years ago when I had surgery on my other knee, my family doctor seemed to panic and insisted I have a complete work up by a cardiologist! So I went to see one who was local and recommended by a friend. I went Monday through Friday to his office. I had EKGs and stress tests everyday. I even had a nuclear stress test! I was certain I must glow in the dark! Too bad I didn't test myself out one night! Anyway, the technician at the hospital contacted the cardiologist and his office assured her that the read out was the same as two years ago and all is alright. The results from that heart doctor two years ago was that I am abnormally normal. How nice!
There was a little boy there with his mother who was getting cleared to have his tonsils out. He was a cute little guy full of questions. He looked to be about four years old. He was wearing dark pants and a white button up shirt all tucked in. He had a short haircut too just like a big boy.
He asked his mom, "what's next, Mommy? What's next?" She answered that the next thing is next. That didn't satisfy him, but that was her answer anyway. Later while I was getting xrayed, I heard him screaming, poor little guy. I guess he found out what came next.
So that was my early morning. My surgery date is the 20th. My dear husband's date is the 25th. He is getting a whole new knee. Not me. Not yet, but it will be really good to have a knee that doesn't hurt, for the both of us. My husband, D, wants to be done before Easter and surely healed by this summer in time to lead the canoe camp again, an event he really loves.
