A week ago while in Maryland, we visited the Baltimore Aquarium. It was so much fun! We saw so many fish! While we were there we heard the story of the orange octopus! This octopus, I will call him Olley, lived in the aquarium in the hall along side many other tanks of tropical fish. Down the hall were more tropical fish too. Well after hours while it was all dark and visitors had gone home, Olley got hungry! While the security people were somewhere else, Olley would slither out of his tank and go up to another tank of tropical fish and help himself to a nice tropical dinner. He even would slither farther down the hall and into another tank and help himself to those fish too. Afterwards Olley would slither back to his own tank and be back there in the morning when the security walked through. Well, the head of the aquarium noticed that there were some tropical fish missing from the tanks. They thought that perhaps some of the employees were netting and selling them for a great price. So the watchmen at the aquarium set up a camera so they could catch the culprits. Then they saw Olley slithering down the hall for his midnight snack! Can you imagine how surprised they were? The put some kind of fencing over his tank, but he continued to get out because octopuses can make themselves very small to fit through very small openings. So finally they put carpeting on the hallway floor and that is what finally stopped Olley and now keeps him in his tank. He doesn't like the feel of that carpet on his suckers!
Here are a few other pictures we took of some of the other fish. There were so many and they were all so different!

I do love an aquarium. Your grandson is such a cutie! Isn't it fun to experience that sense of wonder through a little one's eyes?
ReplyDeleteP.S. The wedding pictures were very nice--looked like a fun time too.
You are right. Experiencing things for the first time again through a little one's eyes is wonderful. The wedding was wonderful too. Lots of great family time!
