Zucchini & Tomato Season!

It's been a very very busy July and now suddenly it's August already! The garden has been producing grandly! How come everything (almost) gets ripe all at once?

This is only half of what I picked last Thursday. Here is some of what I made.

Yellow Tomato Pasta Sauce

Yellow Tomato Jam (with Cinnamon)

Also friends have been donating zucchini and red tomatoes. We got LOTS of cherry tomatoes and yellow plum tomatoes but our large red tomatoes got some kind of a fungus. We couldn't use them

Football size zucchini from a friend!

Red tomato sauce in the making

From our garden- peppers- bell & hot, zucchini, basil, oregano

I have started making zucchini bread to freeze, eat and give away. I plan to buy corn on the cob which is starting in the farm markets (this year they are selling some of it already husked!) And I need to start buying peaches and what ever blueberries remain. I already made a little blueberry jam.

So this has been most of our July. Son J is still on crutches from his knee surgery. He just announced he'll be allowed to walk in 1 week after he sees the doctor again.
We are planning on returning to Maine for our grandson's 3rd birthday. This time
we plan on taking Katie our dog. Hope that works OK. It's been a while since we took her any distance and last time she got a little car sick. We will have to try her out on some shorter trips before then.

Bye for now. Time to check the zucchini bread!

  1. The turn to August gives summer a whole different feel--and a great taste.
