I woke up nice and early this morning. The light was shining through the trees in the woods in view of our bedroom window, so I just gazed at that for a few minutes being thankful for God's creations, then glanced at the digital clock lit up on my bathroom counter. 5:30. I decided to stay put just a little longer and got up at 6. Of course the first one to greet me when I came out of my bedroom was Zoey our fat cat who has an insaciable appetite, thus the name fat cat, said with love of course. 😻
Next to greet me was Snowball the great white wonder who is in high shedding mode right now! I let her out and stepped out on the deck to check the temperature. 46 degrees. Not bad. I didn't look at the weather last night so I don't know what to expect today weather wise, but the skies look cloudy to the east. 🙀
Back to Snowball. - I put on a dark gray wool button up sweater when I let the dog out and by just being close to her, my arm was full of white dog hair! Ugh.
That means I really have to brush her good today. She hasn't been limping as much as she was. We did get the brace the vet suggested though. When we ordered it the bank called to report an unusual purchase on our debit card from Australia! We didn't know it was coming all the way from there! Makes it really seem like a small world after all! (Yes I am humming that song in my head!! Ha Ha!) It arrived in about a week. Now to try and get her to wear it. So far she hasn't. My hubby says he needs to have someone to help him put it on her. --Here I am!-- We really should try it on her, but now that we ordered it and got it, she seems somewhat better. Isn't that always the way? And that thing cost a pretty penny too! She has hip displacia. And she's just 3 years old. Poor girl. 🙀
Well- during this Covid 19 time- time of masks and social distancing- one word that has really jumped out at me is Essential. Only essential businesses are allowed open. The liquor store is essential? The Verizon store is essential? Now that things are easing up a bit more "essential" businesses are opening up like dog groomers. Of course restaurants have been busy with their take out orders and gas stations and gas station stores and grocery stores have been open too. Most people around here have been wearing masks and trying to distance themselves.
But then there's Walmart! A land of its own! I think of Walmart as the germ capital of the world! Well, at least of the area! I have been there twice since March. Once to purchase some body wash for my son and some other "essential" things that I didn't know where else to get. Half the people were not wearing masks, they crowded together and one young man was walking around with a gas mask on! Good grief.
The other time I went was last Friday with my husband. I went to the grocery section to get some items that my more local store didn't have. As usual, we spent way more then we had planned. But, we are stocked now for two weeks.
Essential. I may be imaging it but it seems when people find out that their jobs are essential, it gives them a sense of pride. Grocery store workers are essential. My son's job is essential because the place where he works makes military helmets for the government, and now they are making the shielded mask for medical workers. His job is repairing masks that are returned. Last Thursday he said 2 masks were returned from a hospital. They quarantined them for 5 days and the company was getting him a hasmat suit to wear while repairing them. --
Our county is going to be in the yellow starting next week. The TV news has been showing the state divided into its counties and they have been yellow or red. Red being in high restricted stay at home statis. We have been red for quite a while. Even in yellow, restaurants supposedly can't open up. Just take out. I guess the goal is to be green. -- I am just afraid that people are going to stop being careful. Like on the beaches. Sure right to start they are distancing but when it gets really warm are people really not going to crowd together. They won't worry about it and go back to normal, only there is a new normal now.
And the schools, what will happen with that? I have been homeschooling our preschooler every week day morning for about 2 hours. There's lots of resources and the district has been putting out more and more requirements on the teachers. As of two weeks ago, our preschool teacher called and said the district is requiring that the teachers tell us that certain papers (worksheets) are required. They email them to us and by Sunday we have to take a picture or scan the completed papers and send them back to the teacher. Usually there are 4 of them. This week there was a science experiment too. If we don't email them back to her she will be calling us! Good grief! And a couple of times a week we are supposed to do a Google Meeting with the class. We are supposed to have it muted unless she says so. - Can you imagine 12 preschoolers seeing each other on the meeting and not chattering away? It's really pretty funny, and the I got the feeling the teacher wasn't all for it, but was doing what she was told. - I myself have had a hard time connecting to the classroom, but I guess I am learning. I just try to get connected early to give me time to figure it out! Good Grief!
So... now it is June. Covid 19 is still around but not too much where we live. We are still wearing the masks though. By July 1st the school district is supposed to make a statement about plans for school in the fall. We received a survey asking our opinion on either doing school at the physical building one week and the next week at home or doing a 6 day rotation. The idea I think is to have fewer kids in the building at one time.
Two weeks ago I had a bad fall. I was babysitting for my son and his wife. The two little ones fell asleep and my son and his wife returned. I picked up my laptop in one arm, my purse in the other. i ventured down stairs (they live upstairs) and I switched off the light not knowing I could do it from the door out. I reached the landing where everyone takes off their shoes to enter, I picked up my sneakers thinking I'd put them on on the outside steps. So with full arms I continued down the remaining steps in the dark and missed the last 3 steps and landed on the cement floor. Yikes! That was not good. In the long run, I ended up with a compound fracture to my left wrist, a huge bump on my forehead, a scraped and bleeding face and a huge lump on my left leg. i got a plate and 8 screws the next morning in our local hospital! Good grief! This was not in the plan f my summer! I am recovering and I have a bright pink cast.
So having shared that all, and typing with one hand, i thank the Lord it wasn't worse and I wish for you a SAFE and relaxing summer. 😀

I wasn't expecting that surprise ending. Gee. Speedy recovery! This year has been full of surprises. But we adapt.
