We had a busy Sunday yesterday. The whole weekend was "the Holy Spirit Weekend". First on Saturday morning we had a spiritual gifts assessment. That consisted of a list of questions that you tally up the answers and the total scores indicate what your spiritual gifts are. Mine were 1st -Faith, 2nd -Compassion, and 3rd- Service.
On Saturday night we had a healing service in the chapel at church. That was really nice. A young adult from our church led us in some praise and worship music, then my husband- Pastor Dave- led us in prayer and as people came up front for prayers for healing, he anointed their heads with oil and asked for 3 people to come forward to lay their hands on the person and pray with him. It was truly very moving.
Then Sunday morning- we had a guest speaker come in. His name is Jim Hughes. He does a drama and sings his message. He portrayed the apostle John. He wore a striped robe and head piece and had a walking stick that was a twisted thick vine. He was excellent. I was impressed how he had his hands trembling like a very old man ~ He has such a strong outstanding voice too. I love to hear him sing. He told us that this is his 40th year in ministry! He doesn't look that old. He must have been doing this as a teen! We know his parents too. His father is a pastor and his mother is a dear lady. I have heard Jim before, but usually he will be here filling in when we are away. So it was good to see him.
After church we had a Harvest Party for the Sunday School. We had stations for the kids to move about to. I manned the Thanksgiving Hop Scotch. Each square had something written down that we are thankful for, like parents, grandparents, Jesus, food our home and a few more. The kids had fun with that and watching the preschoolers try and do it was lots of fun! We also had a pumpkin decorating group, an bean bag toss, a pin the fruit in the cornucopia and I think there was another one too. I miss having little ones in our house that love to do these kind of things. Son J feels too old for all this.
At the end of the party our old friend Ginny stopped by to visit, so we ended up going out for lunch. (Not that she's old! Ha Ha! She'd get me for that!) We have known Ginny for some 25 years. She was a member of our second church we were appointed to. It's nice to have old friends stop by.
Last night was the Jr. High Youth group. J is in that so I usually go down to help. Last night I was in charge of a trivia game for them. I also did devotions with them too. We all had a good time with the trivia game and then they went upstairs and played some dodgeball in the gym.
So now it's Monday. I have been doing a little bit of this and that all day. Running kids here and there and doing odds and ends around here. I am a domestic engineer. That's my official title!
Dad is going to go get J from school now. Ulterior motive.....he has a star bucks gift certificate he NEEDS to use and there.s one not too far away from school!
