Knee replacements and backyard birds!

I haven't posted in a while; a lot has been happening round here and I haven't been on the computer very much. I had meniscus surgery on my right knee on Feb. 20th. It was out patient surgery. I am walking around by now and I just started going up and down stairs in the usual way instead of one at a time. My knee is still sore especially right now, after therapy, but it's doing well. They did a little more work then I thought they were going to do, but I guess I needed it. My left knee will need replacement. My doctor is waiting for me to give him the go ahead. I don't think I am ready yet.

My husband did have the total knee replacement on his right knee. When he got home from Haiti, it was really bothering him. He had his surgery on the 25th. His was in patient surgery. He stayed in the hospital for 4 days now he is in in-patient rehab. He went in last Thursday and so I expect they will release him by this coming weekend. I have been driving everyday to see him. That's 20 miles one way. I take the highway. Driving is one of the things that hurts my knee- keeping it in that position for so long. It's worth it though. He is coming a long a little everyday and I am seeing what rehab is like before I have to experience it. He can now get into and out of bed by himself, use the bathroom and shower by himself and wheel himself down the hall. He is practicing walking with the walker. Everything wears him out a whole lot though. He has to learn how to take steps. We do have a bedroom available down stairs at our house, but the regular bedroom is upstairs. The shower is up stairs too.

Here is D in his bed at rehab with his knee on the knee machine

The rest of our world is going on as regular with it's ups and downs. Church activities have been busy as usual and in choir we are working on an Easter Cantata. I have just been really tired and not as peppy as usual with all the running I have been doing. And now I am trying to fight off a newly developed cold.

Funny, but I was thinking today how nice it would be to just have a complete day at home to finish some projects round here.
But that will happen soon enough when my hubby gets home from rehab.

We are at the end of basketball season with our son J. Games have been Saturdays at noon.

The bird population has been busy in our backyard chattering away in the mornings. The big nuisance black starlings haven't been around too very much to chase all the other birds away.

The beautiful male cardinal at the feeder the squirrels have done a number on!

One of our many juncos perched by the grape vines.

One of our naughty squirrels scavenging some sunflower seeds from the ground.

And now it's March already. Time marches on!!

  1. Sorry to hear about all the knee troubles. There seems to be a lot of that going around.
