ANTS!!!!

I have been battling ants! It's been about a good month and a half now. I put out those little pieces of cardboard with the poison on them that attracts them and poisons them so that they take the poison back to their nest to get the rest. That attracted A LOT of ants! At least they are the little ones!

Then I read up on organic ways to repel them. One was cinnamon. Another way was to use white vinegar or lemon juice. So ... I cleaned out all my cupboards (they needed it anyways!) and I sprinkled cinnamon around the inside edges of them and I sprinkled a lot of cinnamon around the two places I found the ants coming in during the ant poison portion of this ant mission.  I also poured white vinegar down the cracks they were coming from.

I also wipe down the whole counter area every other day. They also do not like Windex All Purpose Cleaner! I heard that when they walk across a counter they leave a little chemical trail that other ants find and follow. So wiping down the counters gets rid of that. So now they have been under control pretty much. Just one here and there. But.....

This morning I came down stairs about 6:30 and someone had left an empty mint chip ice cream container in the sink!!!!!! It was covered with a couple of hundred ants!! How do they know when there's something in the sink? Does the little scout ant get on his little walkie talkie and call the troops back home at the ant hill?
I couldn't believe someone did that! So I picked up the whole ant covered container and put it outside in the trash. I washed all the remaining ants down the drain. Then I saw the many ants on the floor. The ones who missed the ice cream social! So in frustration I grabbed some insect repellent and sprayed that all over the floor by the back door to get those ants!

Now I think I will have to wash the whole floor this morning when I get back from putting my charge on the school bus! I DO NOT want my hubby slipping on the floor when he comes in from pastor's breakfast! Or the dog! What a chain reaction that would be!

It's funny, I woke up this morning trying to see God somewhere in some super stressful events that have happened this week. Now the ants! Maybe God got who ever put the ice cream container in the sink to do that on purpose to attract the ants to distract me from the other stresses? Maybe? Does that mean I should thank God for ants? Hmmmm......

  1. I have had those ant battles. The tiny ones are the most persistent. It would be worth checking around to look for their nesting place outside. We found one under a piece of plywood in the shed. I have used a syrup of water, sugar, and then borax mixed in near their entry ways, but I don't have pets or small children to worry about.
