Rainy Rainy Day (and Night)

It was a rainy rainy day yesterday. Actually the past day and a half. That's ok. It's better than the extreme heat! But the words to Starry Starry Night kept coming to mind! And the tune. Only I was thinking it was Rainy Rainy Night. Ha Ha! I finally called my son A who I knew would know the correct name for that song and who sang it. He didn't know, but posed the question to his wife and sister in law who were sitting there. He finally googled it. He told me "Mom you could have googled it!'' I told him I hadn't thought of that. That's not always the first thing that comes to mind.

So anyway, here are some of the lyrics to Starry Starry Night by Don Mclean. (It's a long song so I am only putting down some of the lyrics.)

                                            Starry, starry night

Paint your pallet blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul

                                                    Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

                                                    And now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

                                                    They would not listen
                                                    They did not know how
                                                    Perhaps they'll listen now

                                                    Starry, starry night
                                                    Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
                                                    Swirling clouds of violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of China blue

                                                    And now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free

                                                    Perhaps they'll listen now
For they could not love you
But still your love was true........

The song is all about Vincent Van Gogh. An interesting person to say the least. But that's not where I was intending on going in this blog. I guess all the rain just made me feel a bit of melancholia. You know, I had to look up the spelling of that word. Not at all how I thought it was spelled!

So today I hope it doesn't rain all day. The weather man said thunder showers later in the afternoon, so maybe we will have most of the day that is ok. I want to go out in and forage for wild raspberries around our yard and a bit further down. I don't expect to find too many, but I may be surprised. I would love to get enough for some jam! I made another batch of strawberry jam yesterday. I didn't have quite enough berries so I added some finely chopped up apples. I remember doing that long ago for the pectin. But this time I added powdered pectin too. It didn't gel exactly like I wanted and turned out a little too sweet. Oh well. I guess it can always be used for a topping for ice cream. That's the good thing for when jams don't gel just right.

So I am going to try and get my morning reading done and morning chores too. Hoping you all have a great day where you are. Try to get out and enjoy the summer!

My two pooches this morning, Snowy is in her heavy shed mode!
